Non-destructive Testing of Fuses

A fuse is a sacrificial device for the protection the rest of the circuit in an over-current situation. There are situations we need to know with some reasonable confidence what the actual maximum current is for a given fuse without destroying it. This is beneficial when the specifications for the fuse at hand is unknown (e.g. with cheap no-name brand fuse), or the circuitry to be protected is so critical that the interrupt current level must be specified precisely.

Constant Current Dummy Load In an HDD Cooler

Basic constant current dummy load using an Op Amp and a by-passing MOSFET is very easy to build and had been made quite popular following Dave’s video on EEVBlog. I happened to have an old aluminum hard disk cooler case collecting dust. The die-cast aluminum case is relatively thick, making it an excellent heat sink. Accurate Milliohm Measurement

Most of the multimeters do not offer resistance measurement in the milliohm range. In most meters a typically Ohm range has an accuracy of 0.1 ohm and is too coarse for measuring small resistance. Of course, some of the high-end multimeters have milliohm range and there are also dedicated micro ohmmeters for even more accurate small resistance measurements, but most of them are priced way out of the range for personal use.
